Why go to Turkey with RS?

turkey has a pr problem.

They are a Muslim country, but they’re NOT the Middle East. They are proud of their secular status. They need visitors from the rest of the world to understand this. Especially now.

unless you know turkish history, you miss a lot.

I appreciated what I saw on the tour much more than the Istanbul museums I visited on my own when i didn't know what i was seeing.

turkey's best sites are spread far apart.

This was an intense trip with little down time, even with a driver taking us door to door. I'm a big fan of independent travel, but it is NOT possible to get to this many places in this many days on your own, without professionals on board.

traveling with an archeologist is a big plus.

I love museums. Ruins…not so much. Having an archeologist for a guide made Aphrodisias and Ephesus two of my favorite places.

finding hotels, food, and bathrooms could be a challenge...especially in rural areas.

Cappadocia was my favorite place, and I never saw a gas station or a grocery store.

Our group meals were always in interesting places, and when we reached a new destination, we always had enough direction to find good places on our own.

The people of Turkey are some of the friendliest I’ve ever met while traveling.

Learning a few words of Turkish helped us meet more locals. During bus time Taylan  constantly tried to teach us more words.

if this has piqued your interest in turkey, here's how you too can go:
